I’m Shaun Kitchener, a scriptwriter for stage and screen; also dipping into acting and entertainment journalism.
I’m currently working with the hit Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, and I was a winner of the BAFTA Rocliffe competition for TV Comedy in 2016. Prior to that, my play All That was produced at the King’s Head Theatre in August 2018, and Positive was at the Park Theatre in July 2015. I also acted in both.
I completed the Royal Court Theatre’s Young Writers’ Group in 2013/14, the Soho Theatre’s Writers’ Lab in 2014/15, and Writing For Serial And Continuing Drama at the London Film School in 2014/15. I own the limited company West Avenue and in 2014 was nominated for an Offie for an early run of Positive; which has been published by Playdead Press. I’ve written and self-produced a number of other bits and pieces, including Christmas Farce at the Rosemary Branch Theatre, unofficial Steps musical 5,6,7,8 at Upstairs At The Gatehouse and the quarterly new writing night Briefs.
As a journalist, I’m currently writing for Metro as a fortnightly entertainment columnist, and I’m also blogging on my own site, Electric Angels. Previously I’ve worked as an ents reporter for sites such as Express.co.uk (Entertainment Editor), ITN Productions’ V.Point, Holy Moly! and EntertainmentWise; and I’ve been commissioned by the likes of The Telegraph, The Mirror, Attitude and Yahoo! Celebrity. I did a weird Grindr-does-Pokemon thing that was picked up by Buzzfeed, The Telegraph, The Daily Dot, Elite Daily, Gay Times and more.
